Katsurao AIR is an Artist-in-Residence programme conducted in Katsurao Village, Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture. Katsurao Collective is now accepting applications from artists and other cultural practitioners for activities in the 2025 fiscal year.

Open Call Programme 2025 – Application Guidelines
1. Programme Overview
This programme supports artists, creators, researchers, and other cultural practitioners engaging in artistic and cultural activities while staying in Katsurao Village.
The programme aims to explore, research, and share the local resources of Katsurao Village. During the activity period, participants are required to present their activities in some form to the public. The production of artworks is not mandatory.
2. Number of Participants
A) Residency Programme
- Approximately six groups in total for both Summer and Autumn terms
- Up to two people per unit
- Shared residency with other artists *¹
B) Group/Family Residency Programme
- One group per term (minimum of three members per group)
- Accommodation for families or groups, including artists
- Exclusive use of a residency building *¹
*¹ The residency includes shared spaces (kitchen, dining, bathroom) and private rooms: 4 rooms on the first floor, 2 rooms on the second floor.
- For individual applicants or units of up to two people, please apply for A) Summer or Autumn term.
- For groups of three or more (including families), please apply for B) August term.
3. Activity Period
A) Residency Programme
- Summer Term: 1st June – 31st July 2025
- Open Studio: 24th – 27th July (tentative)
- Autumn Term: 1st October – 9th November 2025
- Open Studio: 31st October – 3rd November (tentative)
B) Group/Family Residency Programme
- Term 1: 4th – 17th August 2025
- Open Studio: 16th August (tentative)
- Term 2: 18th – 31st August 2025
- Open Studio: 30th August (tentative)
Activity Duration
- A) Residency Programme
- Summer Term: Minimum 14 days – Maximum 60 days
- Autumn Term: Minimum 14 days – Maximum 40 days
- B) Group/Family Residency Programme
- Term 1: Minimum 10 days – Maximum 14 days
- Term 2: Minimum 10 days – Maximum 14 days
Notes:
- If planning to leave the village for an extended period, consult with the administration.
- Travel expenses will be provided (with an upper limit).
- Participants are generally required to stay during the Open Studio period.
4. How to Apply
Please upload your portfolio to an online storage service and submit your application via the designated application form.
Portfolio Requirements
- Full name (or artist name)
- Past activities
- Up to 5 previous works
- Planned activities (preliminary ideas are acceptable)
Portfolio Submission Guidelines
- Submit as a PDF file, within 5 pages.
- File name format: “[Artist Name]: Portfolio”.
- Use an online storage service (Gigafile recommended: https://gigafile.nu/).
- Set the download availability for at least two weeks.
- Keep the file size within 5 works, 5MB total.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.

- 20th January (Mon) – 28th February (Fri), 2025, 17:00 Japan Time (strict deadline)
Selection Schedule (Tentative)

- From April: Notification of results
5. Selection and Notification
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges and the administration team.
Results will be notified via email from April 2025 onwards.
